Actually the recession that was deepened by the attacks on September 11, 2001 had started in Clinton’s final two years in office. Clinton also hastened the sale of our country to the Chinese, a trend continued to this day. Our economy is cyclic, just like our climate. The 9 Trillion in debt is from several sources: 1) recovery from the worst terrorist attack ever perpetrated on US Soil, 2) The war in Afghanistan, and 3) the war in Iraq, 4) the Congress and President spending OUR money like they were on a long drunken binge. As to the housing crash, that was a long time in the making. It didn’t start with President Bush and it wont be solved by President Obama. Congress pushed lenders to make loans to people who should not have been given money to buy a stick of gum never mind a house. Rep Frank should have packed a bag and turned himself in right after he said he wanted prison terms for those responsible for the housing crash. He and his cronies in congress were to blame.
As to President Bush’s military service, at least he thought it was important enough to enter the service of his country. No doubt he joined the Guard because he knew he wouldn’t be deployed. When asked about his lack of military service President Obama stated that he didn’t think it was important enough to devote his valuable time and efforts to the military.
Finally, since you ask, I’m not sure what country we live in anymore. The government is now the majority owner of two auto companies, numerous banks (if not the oentire sector), and are making a move on healthcare. We have started down the slippery slope of fascism. The government has panels to set pay for private corporate executives, not just CEOs. In a supposedly free market society we hear shrill cries of obscene profits. We are witnessing class warfare, propogated by those in power to distract us from what they are really doing. If we continue down this path your ancestors will be able to read about the Rise and Fall of America. Why don’t we leave the revisionist history to our former adversaries in Eastern Europe? It is time to oust ALL of our political heroes in DC and start over.

I must say for a laugh this column has really triggered a few sore points. If anyone really wants to investigate where the Recovery & Stimulus Monies are going (that is instead of health care, jobs and our military) you can look at Grants.gov under Health Department and see the millions of dollars in grants being funneled to Africa, Vietnam, Haiti, etc… all to fund their HIV-Aids programs and stabilization of their communities. Anyone got a problem with that? We should be declaring bankruptcy while we give our tax dollars to the rest of the world, let our kids go hungry & homeless, without education, or futures. I also noticed that we are cutting military budgets, so people in Botswana get money to blow. Sorry for seeming less than compassionate, but we need to get our own house straight first!

This whole thread has me exhausted. The thing that is shocking is not the ignorance, there are dumb people everywhere, but the unmitigated bile being spewed at fellow Americans.
I will be gracious to Donald and assume (and yes I know that when you assume you risk making an ass of you and me) he read the headline tired and bleary eyed early in the morning or late at night (like I end up doing most of the time) and shot straight from the lip. The fact that he hasn’t posted again tells me it was either a ‘Drive-by’ posting, or he is embarrassed from his mistake.
As for Obama, I freely admit I did not vote for him. It had nothing to do with his race. I made my judgement based on his own words, his past and continued associations, voting record, and the history of causes he endorsed.
I am not a fan of his current policies, nor the policies he is seeking to impose, and so he will not have my vote for a second term. I will not call him a Socialist as he is not. I will call him what he openly told everyone he is that no one bothered to research, a Progressive. You see socialists like to come to power via a revolution. Progressives like to slowly errode our rights and Constitution so that after time we look around and no longer recognize our country.
I will give him credit for continuing the fight in Afghanistan, but I am disturbed that it took him so long to approve a request for troops. I have little confidence in him because although he saught the highest office in our land, he refuses to take ownership of his command and the responsabilities he has been entrusted with. If it looks good, he claims it. If it doesn’t, it’s all W’s fault. That dog just won’t hunt.
As for the religious/anti-religious comments, in all sincerity we have a First Amendment that ensures Freedom of Religion (not freedom from it). It has been twisted, turned, bent, and bruised by numerous court rulings, when if you take the time to read the supporting documents written by our founders it was placed there not to squash religions, but to keep the State from creating a sole religion (ie, the Anglican Church of England).
As for our Aethiest friends, take an honest look at your rampat adherence to your dogma. I am sure if you are honest with yourself, you will realize you have taken your anti-religion stance to the level of it being your own personal religion. It even stops you from allowing legitiment scientific studies that may in any way, even remotely sound as if it has a foundation in a religious belief. Truely sad.
To the gentleman who inaccurately quoted history, the bible was not written hundreds of years after Jesus Christ lived and died, it’s gospels were compiled and codified in the year 333ad at the Council of Nicea. Virtually all of the new testament was written by the hands of his disciples within 30 years of his death, or written by their followers as told to them by the disciples who witnessed the events.
As this post is getting long in the tooth I won’t delve into the Koran, except to say that you will not find a more schizophrenic religious document if you try. Also, their are no miracles of Mohammad in it. Those are documented in a seperate text written nearly a hundred years later in order to make Mohammad sound like a more important prophet than Jesus (whom even they recognize as a prophet, although not as the Son of God).
I will close with this. My family/ancestors have fought in every major armed conflict this nation has been involved in from the Revolutionary War to today. When not at war we have served as Firemen, Police Officers, Deputy Sheriff’s, Marshals, Special Agents, and Contracted Agents of this country. Virtually every single generation of my Family has stood tall and taken the Oath. You know the one. The one where you swear to “Uphold and Defend the Constitution of the United States of America, against all enemies, foriegn and Domestic”. It saddens me to see such a great nation as ours, and a website dedicated to our men and women in the armed forces, sullied by claims of hate, racism, stupidity, and other insults. I suggest you all take a look at yourselves, dig deep, and find the American Spirit you were born with so that we can return this nation to what it was, and always intended to be. Getting back to the original point of the OP:
If Osama’s in Colombia, we have bigger problems than we first thought. For one thing, he had to have a place to go to. Someone is providing this bastard support. Barack Obama now has to figure out how to build the diplomatic bridges which will allow us to track Al Quaeda in that nation.
Second, we’re going to have to either trust Colombia to hunt Osama Bin Laden down, or we’re going to have to send in our own troops. Given the current situation in Colombia with the drug cartels, (who are, no doubt, helping to fund Bin Laden’s presence), I’m not real cheerful on the chances for either choice.
And, yes, I know what the video shows. I’m just sayin’…

The economy has barely improved, and yes it was already down the drain before Obama came into office, but with financial companies spending money on themselves and not assisting the public, we will go nowhere. Foreign dependacy needs to stop, why outsource sources of revenue to other countries when we can profit for it ourselves? The health care reform is by far the biggest and worst decision. Imposing fines on people for not having it, we are required by law to have car insurance not health insurance. This bill has also damaged TRICARE benefits now, with offices starting to not accept it because they are paid 21 percent less, and having our pay raises drop every year, i dont know if anyone else saw his new proposal for 2011, but it was 1.4 percent i believe, which is two percent lower than this years. Just because he never served in the military does not mean he should punish us, yes we volunteered and knew what we were getting into, but at the same time that doesnt mean we should be treated like scum and barely make ends meat. Now i remember why im not a democrat.
