Islam Goes 'Idol'

In what seems to be an effort to make Islam seem more in line with media-driven culture, Malaysian TV recently held an American Idol-style competition to find the country's next great Young Imam. Over the course of several weeks, contestants competed in tasks like reciting from the Koran, washing corpses and slaughtering sheep in the correct manner. Winner Muhammed Asryaf received a scholarship to a Saudi university and an all-expenses-paid trip to Mecca.
