Assassin’s Creed III Explains the Tea Party

Looks like someone at Ubisoft realized that most of their target audience for Assassin’s Creed III thinks that the Tea Party has something to do with angry old people in minivans, so they’ve made a new game trailer that explains the American history behind the actual 1773 Boston Tea Party.

How they’re going to square the game’s historical Templar conspiracy theories with the American Revolution is still a bit of a mystery, but we’ll find out some details when the game comes out October 30th.

Or hang on, Ubisoft just announced a $30 Season Pass that will give players access to a single-player DLC game called The Tyranny of King George. As in King George Washington.

As the revolution comes to a close, a new and most unexpected enemy emerges. Driven by the desire to secure the fate of the colonies, the greatest hero of the revolution, George Washington, succumbs to the temptation of infinite power. The new King is born and his reign leaves no one untouched. To return freedom to the land our new hero must dethrone a tyrant he once called friend.

If you know your conspiracy theories, you know that George was a Mason and that’s the next best thing to being a Templar.

Actually, the developers must be really worried about our collective grasp of basic American history. This TV commercial that’s been running during football games adds a Diddy song to get your attention and then assumes you know next-to-nothing about the issues at stake or who the enemy was back in the day.
