Drive, directed by Nicolas Winding Refn and starring Ryan Gosling, is one of those great movies that didn't get a full Hollywood push that still managed to find its audience. It stayed in theaters for months and really hit big once released on DVD and it's been one of the most popular titles on Netflix for months.

Refn and Gosling have reunited to make Only God Forgives,a crime thriller set in the Bangkok underworld. Gosling runs a Thai boxing club as a front for his family's drug smuggling operation until his mom forces him to find out who killed his brother and avenge the death.

Gosling may not smile in Refn's movies, but they seem to enjoy making them.

That sounds like the plot for a straight-ahead action picture like Nicolas Cage's Bangkok Dangerous from a couple of years back, but just a plot summary for Drive would make you think it was an assembly-line Hollywood action picture as well. Refn's certainly up to something more complicated here and the new trailer (above) and the red band unrated trailer (below) make this one look like a natural successor to Drive. Only God Forgives is out July 19th.
