Review: Survivor Mossy Oak iPad Case

Griffin Technology has launched a line of Mossy Oak-branded protective cases for iPhone, iPad and Samsung Galaxy. We tested the Survivor iPad case in the Shadow Grass Blades pattern for iPad 2, 3 and 4, which retails for $89.99 via the Griffin online store.

The Survivor line proudly announces that it's been tested against the Department of Defense's MIL-STD-801G and, once the device is safely lodged in the case, Griffin's claims about drop, dirt and rain protection held up through some basic testing.

This is absolutely not a case that you can swap out on a whim. It's really hard to remove the polycarbonate top face, almost as hard to take off the silicon case and it's going to take a few minutes to get everything realigned as you put the case back together around your device. All that protection comes with some added weight: an iPad 3 is no longer a one-handed device when wrapped up in the Survivor. Of course, added weight isn't going to be as much of an issue if you're using a Galaxy, iPhone or iPad Mini or the new iPad Air.

There's also a stand that can stay permanently clipped to the case. It's not going to come or or pop open if you don't want it to. There are sturdy silicone covers for the connector port, audio plug and the camera lens. There's even a flap that you can open to expose the speaker grill.

This is definitely a product aimed at folks who have a house full of Mossy Oak gear. The available patterns match a lot of other licensed gear the company has created. If you're in a relationship with someone who insists on bringing their electronic device to bed, at least now you can make sure the phone case matches their underwear.
