The worst thing about modern smartphones? Terrible battery life. The second worst thing about modern smartphones? Keeping track of your charger and finding a place to plug it in. The Power2U outlet swaps out with most existing outlets and adds two 2.1A iPad-strength USB outlets, freeing up the plugs for other uses.

There's a lot to like about these, starting with the price. You can get them for $19.50 each right now at the OWC website, which is about the same price as a original manufacturer charger for most Androids and iPhones. They come in white, light almond, ivory and black to match most home design schemes.

The outlet has a sliding panel that covers the USB ports when they're not in use. The USB doesn't draw power unless the panel is open and pressing down on a switch that sits behind the cover, eliminating any issues with vampire power draw. They're also UL listed.

The outlet's just as easy to install as a standard one, but there are incredibly clear and well-made installation and FAQ videos on the OWC website for anyone who needs a little guidance or reassurance.

One note of caution: the Power2U is too big for the low-end 2x3" outlet boxes used in some inexpensive modern construction. You can always hire an electrician for installation or carve out a larger hole in your drywall and upgrade the box. The FAQ video details everything you need to know about that issue, but your current box has to be at least 2 1/4" wide, 3 5/8" high and 2 1/2" deep.

If you (or your kids or your spouse) can't keep track of chargers, these outlets can solve an irritating problem. If you're building or renovating a house, putting at least one of these in every room should be a no-brainer.
