Ex-CIA Officers Make a TV Drama With 'State of Affairs'

After a career in national service, most everyone still has to get out there and make a living. Former CIA counterterrorism head Henry Crumpton has found a new vocation in show business and he's created a new NBC drama series called State of Affairs in association with Rodney Faraon, his partner at the Crumpton Group and a former CIA officer who was a member of the Daily Briefing Team for Presidents Bill Clinton and George W. Bush.

State of Affairs stars Katherine Heigl as Charleston Tucker, a CIA officer who assembles the President's Daily Briefing (PDB) for President Constance Payton (played by Alfre Woodard). There's a lot of "how things work in counterintelligence" components to the show but, since it's a network TV show starring an actor who used to be on Grey's Anatomy, there's a lot of soapy elements as well. Charleston Tucker was once engaged to the president's son before they were victims of a terrorist attack. Her fiancé was killed and now she shares her grief with the president, who was almost her mother-in-law.

The show runs on Monday nights after The Blacklist. Will it be a wacked-out over-the-top version of Washington like the one on Scandal? It's hard to imagine that kind of show made by a couple of veteran spies like Crumpton and Faraon, but the show's title does kind of seem like a double entendre. Tune in to find out.
