Free Speech Wins: ‘Sniper’ Screening is Back On

According to a post at Fox News, officials at the University of Michigan had an attack of good sense and reinstated this weekend’s showing of American Sniper. The screening was originally called off after 300 students signed a petition from a student who claimed the film “condones a lot of anti-Middle Eastern and North African propaganda.”

University Vice President for Student Life E. Royster Harper remembered that a university’s mission is to encourage discussion and debate of challenging ideas and issued a statement: “The initial decision to cancel the movie was not consistent with the high value the University of Michigan places on freedom of expression and our respect for the right of students to make their own choices in such matters. The movie will be shown at the originally scheduled time and location.”

Crisis averted. We still live in America, where unpopular or challenging ideas can be aired in the public square. It’s what Chris Kyle was fighting for in the first place.

What is sauce for the goose, is sauce for the gander. You Nam guys will understand this. I had recently gotten back from Nam, and 8 guys who belonged to the SDS started to infringe on MY RIGHTS. So, this one Marine took them on, and they were gone from the campus in less than two days. I figured that, even though I out numbered them, I would not hurt them too badly.

Good for the protesters for free speech. This is America and if muslims don’t like this movie the don’t watch it. also all that come here should be made to become AMERICANS OR LEAVE THIS GREAT NATION

Nothing in the article said it was Muslims. Comments like this is what fuels the fires. All it said was some students and that could be anyone from any race or religion who does not understand what the movie is truely about. Did my time from 73 to 99 and I believe in the right to speak your mind, just don’t get mad when someone disagrees. The choice is yours, it’s YOUR right.

It was muslim students that complained.

Special thanks to football coach, Jim Harbaugh, for his scathing comment and support for showing the film before the ‘U’ changed their collective ‘Progressive’ (an oxymoron) minds…

We would not have a movie if insurgents and terrorists are nice people. Why don’t they protest about things like ending the wars.

Great sniper movie, it’s just a shame, the Iraq War was 100% unnecessary and totally senseless.

UM….Thank you for your common since…!!!

lets just hope that the movie did not offend Arab students and sensitive students sickened by screen violence.
