The Girl on the Train is the latest movie based on a thriller that you saw everyone reading on a plane or at the beach a couple of years ago. It's out now on 4K Ultra HD, Blu-ray, DVD, Digital HD and On Demand. Comparisons to the excellent movie version of Gone Girl are inevitable and, unfortunately, director Tate Taylor (The Help, Get On Up) isn't a visionary like David Fincher, a filmmaker who can turn a pulpy novel into something epic on screen.

If you've read Paula Hawkins' novel, the biggest issue with The Girl on the Train might be the decision to move the setting from suburban London to suburban New York. There's a certain uptight British attitude to the scandal in the novel, one that doesn't quite translate to contemporary America.

The cast includes Emily Blunt (Sicario, Edge of Tomorrow), Rebecca Ferguson (Mission Impossible: Rogue Nation), Haley Bennett (The Magnificent Seven), Justin Theroux (“The Leftovers”) and Luke Evans (Dracula Untold). Everyone is excellent, especially Evans, who proves he deserves a shot at moving beyond action picture roles.

The movie sets up as "disturbed woman becomes stalker," but there's a major twist that lots of viewers will see coming because the movie is more concerned with setting up the twist than preserving the surprise. If you're looking for one of those rare movies that all the grownups in your house can watch together, these are likely to be minor complaints.
