G.I. Joe: Retaliation finally comes out March 29th after a lengthy delay to add 3D and possibly more Channing Tatum to the movie. Paramount has released a stirring and effective Special Forces recruitment video that hits all the right patriotic notes and might make you want to run out and sign up.…until you realize they’re recruiting for COBRA Command.
Fans of the G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra movie or the G.I. Joe: A Real American Hero comics know that COBRA are the freelance bad guys who serve as the G.I. Joe Team’s primary enemies. Retaliation features a COBRA leader impersonating the President of the United States. The fate of the world depends on the Joes overthrowing our false government and taking back America for the people.
Whether you think that plot sounds totally ridiculous or eerily plausible, the whole false flag thing with the recruitment video is a pretty effective way to generate attention for the movie. Imagine how everyone would’ve reacted if the COBRA recruitment video ran on CBS during the blackout at the Super Bowl.
