The Cobra H.I.S.S. Tank is one of the most iconic pieces of gear from the ‘80s G.I. Joe universe and the filmmakers wanted to create a real-life version for the G.I. Joe: Retaliation movie. In this clip from the upcoming Blu-ray release, director Jon M. Chu and Hasbro’s Brian Goldner talk about designing and building the High Speed Sentry vehicle. +Continue Reading
Here’s the official word on the G.I. JOE: RETALIATIONhome video release: you can buy the Blu-ray, Blu-ray 3D or DVD on July 30th. If you just can’t wait or if you’re one of those forward thinkers who’s left all your physical media behind, you can buy a digital download two weeks earlier on July 16th.

The folks behind the G.I. Joe: Retaliation marketing campaign are really emphasizing the COBRA recruiting angle. Like their first recruitment video, this new clip emphasizes themes of honor, courage and freedom while they convince you to enlist with the bad guys. There’s also a new COBRA Special Forces recruitment website where you can actually join the (virtual) cause using your Facebook login.
We’re less than three weeks from the movie’s March 28th release date, so here’s hoping G.I. Joe’s got a plan to defeat the enemy within and COBRA’s not actually going to keep control of the U.S. government once the movie’s over. +Continue Reading
G.I. Joe: Retaliation finally comes out March 29th after a lengthy delay to add 3D and possibly more Channing Tatum to the movie. Paramount has released a stirring and effective Special Forces recruitment video that hits all the right patriotic notes and might make you want to run out and sign up.…until you realize they’re recruiting for COBRA Command.
Fans of the G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra movie or the G.I. Joe: A Real American Hero comics know that COBRA are the freelance bad guys who serve as the G.I. Joe Team’s primary enemies. Retaliation features a COBRA leader impersonating the President of the United States. The fate of the world depends on the Joes overthrowing our false government and taking back America for the people.
Whether you think that plot sounds totally ridiculous or eerily plausible, the whole false flag thing with the recruitment video is a pretty effective way to generate attention for the movie. Imagine how everyone would’ve reacted if the COBRA recruitment video ran on CBS during the blackout at the Super Bowl.
It’s G.I. Joe. We’re there on March 29th. More to come, of course.
The new GI Joe movie GI JOE RETALIATIONlooks like it may — may — be better than the first one. As you’re already aware, assuming you have half the brains God gave the common dog, the first movie was an abomination. Look, for obvious reasons we have a vested interest in making sure the GI Joes (and any action figures, for that matter) are properly represented in film and fiction. All copies of that first movie should be burned and it’s memory utterly extirpated from living memory. (Grunts: extirpate.) With The Rock, Bruce Willis, Ray Stevenson, Jonathan Pryce, Channing Tatum (and, gosh, Rza or RZA or whatever the hell it is), it may actually be decent. We’ll see. +Continue Reading
