The Bieber 9/11 Menace

Let's face it: the Internet can be so confusing.

To wit: the patriots over at the 9/11 Hard Hat Pledge want you to boycott any individuals or companies who support construction of a "Ground Zero mosque" in NYC.

The organization used its Facebook page to launch a boycott of Justin Bieber after finding an online article that featured comments the Canadian teen idol allegedly made to Tiger Beat magazine:

In an interview with Tiger Beat, the pop sensation stressed that freedom of religion is what makes America great, and went on to say that those who oppose the Mosque are motivated by bigotry.

“Muslims should be allowed to build a mosque anywhere they want,” the singer said. “Coming from Canada, I’m not used to this level of intolerance, eh.”

Bieber went on to say that Muslims are “super cool,” Christians are “lame-o-rama,” and that the mosque will help “start a dialogue” with all religions about which Justin Bieber song is the most awesome.

“I was like seven when September 11th went down, and frankly I’m surprised people are still going on about it. Move on, already!”

Unfortunately for the activists, the Bieber quotes come from a (not very funny) celebrity satire site called Celebjihad.com. You'd think the site name might've tipped them off, but it's a tragedy that troubles lots of political activists: getting worked up about the issues sometimes screws up your joke radar.

After Salon.com pointed out their error at the end of last week, most of the anti-Justin material has been scrubbed from the website and Facebook page. The organization has yet to issue a retraction or apology to the daughters of Ground Zero mosque opposers who've been living under a Bieber ban for the last month.
