Demand Your Battleship!

Even though it’s already playing in other countries around the world, Hasbro’s epic Transformication of Battleship doesn’t hit U.S. theaters until May 18th. If that’s too long a wait, Universal Pictures and the Eventful website folks are teaming up to give service members a chance to win an advance screening at the movie theater closest to their base.

You have to go to the Eventful site and “demand” (a/k/a vote) for your base to win the screening. Eventful looks sort of like a concerts, movie screenings and sporting events version of Evite.

Here’s a quote from Josh Goldstine, President of Theatrical Marketing, Universal Pictures:

“These early screenings of ‘Battleship’ allow Universal an opportunity to thank our active duty and reserve service members and their families for their constant sacrifices. The spirit of the film is one of assembling the best of the best for a daunting, shared mission.  We hope that by bringing together our soldiers, sailors, airmen, Marines and coast guardsmen with their families, they may enjoy a night out at the movies.”

A night out at the movies might be just the thing that inspires a generation of heroes to reenlist to prepare for any potential alien invasion threats. Voting ends on May 8th. Point totals are pretty low right now (Eglin AFB is winning with less than 200 votes), so any kind of organized effort might give your base a chance to win.

If anyone’s stationed overseas and had a chance to see Battleship, please give us your advance review in the comments.

Just saw the movie “Battleship” here in Fuchu, Japan. I thought it was just going to be another sci-fi flick, but my lady (an English speaking Japanese) wanted to see it. All i can say is “WOW”! As for the non-“alien” parts it was almost like being back on active duty again. (I’m a retired “mustang” Navy officer.) Further, it gives real credit and actually stars active duty and retired military personnel. (One of the stars is an actual retired Army LtCol with an artificial leg. No pro stuntmen here!) The inclusion of the USS Missouri (now a museum in Oahu was fantastic. and part of former battleship crew members was an additional plus. I could go on and on, but… This is a “must see” !
