Disney's Coast Guard action thriller The Finest Hours opens in theaters on January 29th. The movie tells the story of the rescue of the crew of the tanker SS Pendleton, which broke in half off Cape Cod in February 1952.

The weather was brutal and larger boats had been committed to a rescue of the SS Ft. Mercer, another tanker that had also broken in half during the storm. A Coast Guard CG-36500 crew led by Boatswain's Mate First Class Bernard Webber (played by Chris Pine) overcame limited technology and impossible odds to rescue 32 men. The mission is one of the most legendary events in Coast Guard history.

We've got a video where men and women of the U.S. Coast Guard talk about the risks they take and the inspiration of  the 1952 rescue. Check it out below.
